Health Tips

Being healthy is critical for caregivers. Living a healthy lifestyle ensures you are able to operate at 100% for your family, and most of all for yourself. Caregivers are susceptible to Caregiver Syndrome, which is a condition that consists of exhaustion, anger, rage, or guilt that results from unrelieved caring for a chronically ill dependent.

We want to share our journey to healthy with you. Hopefully, you will find some tips that will help you live your best life now. Also, please feel free to share any thoughts you have on living a healthy lifestyle.

I Did a Three Day Juice Cleanse…And I Liked It :-)

The Juice Bar of Winter Garden
Day one of juice from “The Juice Bar of Winter Garden” !!

I’m so excited to share this post with you. As we get ready to grow into a lifestyle site. I wanted to get started by talking about my experience with juice cleanses. I’ve really been focused for the past year on getting healthy. I learned late last year that I was borderline pre-diabetic. This occurs when your blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as full-blown diabetes. I have a genetic predisposition to diabetes (my mother and all her siblings including her parents were diabetic). That was all the warning I needed to get serious about my health. So, I became a pescatarian (fish-eating vegetarian), and started working out regularly.

The Things We Take For Granted

The Things We Take For Granted

***This is one of the first blogs I wrote, and I wanted to share it again. It definitely helped put things in perspective for me. I hope you enjoy it.***

We are so blessed! We get the opportunity to wake up and savor the world, the good and bad. This week I had an opportunity to reflect on that as I took my Mom to the eye doctor. I know that sounds like such a routine thing to do. But, for my Mom it’s very different. She is legally blind, and for her it’s a moment filled with fear and regret.

Lacing Up My Track Shoes

Have you ever felt like you're in a race against time?

Have you ever felt like you’re in a race against time?

You know that feeling when your heart is racing, and your palms are sweaty because you don’t know if you’re going to make it. Your goal is right in front of you. But, do you have enough time to reach it? It’s one of the most frightening and motivating feelings in the world. It’s just hard to remember that when it’s happening to you.

Sometimes You Have to Encourage Yourself

Today has led me to reflect on “Encouraging Yourself”. My Mom and I went to the doctor to get her blood work results. Diabetes is doing great. Levels are nice and low, almost pre-diabetic. But, her kidneys are getting worse. She has stage 3 kidney failure. Stage 3 kidney failure is just one step away from complete renal failure and dialysis. Definitely not what I wanted to hear. However, in spite of the negative report, there is good news.
