Product Review: Nubian Heritage African Black Soap Collection
Nubian Heritage is my new boo!
Hello everyone! Sorry, that I’ve been gone for so long. But, I've been super busy with "life" . Plus, my “favorite” and only sister just graduated from college. But, in between all of the craziness, Nubian Heritage blessed me with an opportunity to review the African Black Soap collection, and I’m in love. So, let me tell you all about it!
Richelieu Dennis, Nyema Tubman and Mary Dennis founded Nubian Heritage over twenty years ago on the streets of Harlem. Richelieu and Nyema had just graduated from Babson College in 1991, and since they were unable to return to Liberia due to civil war. They made the decision to partner with Richelieu’s mother to begin making and selling Shea Butter and African Black Soap on the streets of Harlem.
Their passion for sharing their culture, and the healing and restorative powers of indigenous ingredients led them to found Sundial Brands, and Nubian Heritage was born. The Nubian Heritage Brand can now be found in Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, Wegmans, Sprouts, Pharmaca, and independent health food stores nationwide.
So, I was honored to have an opportunity to review their African Black Soap collection. I was able to review the products at no cost to me. I also was not paid for this post, and my opinions are completely unbiased. So, let’s talk about African Black Soap.
Nubian Heritage’s African Black Soap collection is perfect for all skin types. African Black Soap, is made with palm ash, tamarind extract and plantain peel and has been used in Africa for centuries to minimize the appearance of skin blemishes and other skin ailments.
So, it’s super moisturizing and healing to problematic skin types. I was able to try the bar soap, body wash, body lotion, and the 24 hour natural deodorant. The line also contains an intensive hand cream and infused shea butter.
When you first try it, you can really feel the “love” that goes into making Nubian Heritage products. The African Black Soap collection has a wonderfully light scent that really lasts. My mom tried the lotion as soon as I opened the box, and she loved the scent. She really appreciated how it wasn’t overpowering, but had a great staying power. She still smelled it on her skin when she woke up the next morning.
I felt the same when I tried the body wash and soap. The scent immediately enveloped me in the shower, and it really had a great lather. So, I felt like I didn’t need to use a lot to get clean. The soaps also easily washed off, and my skin didn’t feel stiff. My skin felt silky smooth and was nicely scented. I felt like I smelled like a mix between coconut oil, shea, and plantains .
The body lotion is nice and thick. I really appreciate a thick lotion that is more like a body cream. My skin tends to be dry sometimes, and it really hydrated my skin. That was especially important to me for my mom. My mom is on medication for her thyroid, diabetes, and high blood pressure. So, her skin takes a beating from the side effects.
Nubian Heritage’s African Black Soap collection really worked wonders for her skin. Her skin was hydrated, and I noticed that she wasn’t scratching from feeling itchy. Her skin looks clearer and we’re making Nubian Heritage’s African Black Soap a permanent part of her skin care routine. It’s so hard to find a healthy product that works for managing the skin challenges that come with the side effects of taking medications. But, this line really gets the job done. So, that sold me right there; and then I found out that their 24 hour natural deodorant works too!
Now, let’s all be real. When you think about natural deodorant you think of a product that’s shaped like a crystal, and is going to leave you smelling like a bear. I thought that way too. Heck, I’d even tried other lines before that shall remain nameless to not bring up "funky" memories .
But, when I tried Nubian Heritage’s African Black Soap 24 hour natural deodorant, I was pleasantly surprised. Now, let me say this. I didn’t fall in love overnight. It’s taken about two weeks of solid not smelling like a mule to ensure I’m ready to give up my Secret . But, after trying this out, and putting it through the “paces” (e.g. runs, working out, stress, etc.), this is going to be my new deodorant of choice.
Nubian Heritage’s 24 hour natural deodorant goes on smooth, doesn’t stain my clothes, and smelled exactly like the African Black Soap collection. I learned how to make it work for me, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve really wanted to make the transition to a natural deodorant, and Nubian Heritage makes the transition very easy. Again, it’s all about the love they put into their products.
Nubian Heritage puts so much love and care into their products. They’re an amazing company, with amazing products that don’t just cover skin care. They also have hair care products too. I was so afraid to try the deodorant too. It took sometime for me to get used to it. I was waiting for someone to tell me that I was funky. But it never happened. On the days I felt "unsure", I would just apply a little extra during the day to ensure I stay fresh. Give it a shot. I think you'll be making the transition sooner than you think. Good luck!
