Captain Bubby's Island Tours & Adventures in Paradise
Pt. 2: Roadtripping With The Divas in Sanibel Island
We’re back! Are you ready for Pt. 2 of our “Road tripping with the Divas: Sanibel Island” adventure? If you need a quick reminder of Pt. 1, please click here. I can’t say enough wonderful things about our fab host resort, Island Inn . Island Inn and Hillgate Marketing sponsored this trip, but all opinions are my own. So, with that out of the way, let’s talk about our Island Tour and Sea Life Excursion with Captain Bubby’s Island Tours and Adventures in Paradise.
Our second day in Sanibel Island started off with a personal tour with Captain Bubby’s Island Tour. Captain Bubby’s Island Tours is a concierge service that specializes in customized, educational, unique experiences that target exploring the beaches of Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva and all of Lee County, Florida. They pride themselves on providing experiences that are tailored to your interests. They love to provide guests access to areas that are off the beaten path to provide the most memorable experience possible. They definitely exceeded that and more with us .
Captain Bubby and her “First Mate”, Paula met us in the lobby of the Island Inn at 10:00am. They were extremely punctual, and were patient as we were a few minutes late getting started (caregiver life ). But, they made us made us feel comfortable right away. They also made it a point to interact with my mom, and that may me feel so great. Mom can be a little “challenging” when meeting new people. But, she definitely started warming up as they explained what our day would entail. They proceeded to lay out a plan that included seeing several different parts of the island, lunch, and then off to have our Sea Life Encounter Excursion. That extra step made a world of difference in mom’s demeanor that day. It made her feel like her opinion mattered in our experience, and that is so important in maintaining everyone’s happiness.
Captain Bubby and Paula are experienced caregivers. So, they understand the challenges that arise from dealing with individuals with limited mobility, etc. They were very forthcoming in sharing their experiences, and it felt great to have someone understand our journey. It’s so special when you can connect with someone that truly understands your journey, and is committed to making your experience memorable. It’s like winning the lottery .
Captain Bubby and Paula made sure mom was comfortable. They helped her easily navigate getting into our van, which was perfectly setup to ensure everyone could get in and out with no problem. They also had everything we could possibly need and more in the van. They had cold drinks (water, Gatorade, soda), towels for the beach, magazines, snacks, binoculars, etc. They’re like MacGyver, and I loved it.
We saw so many wonderful places, The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum; the only shell museum in the United States. The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (C.R.O.W.), Captain Bubby shared that he’s a Naturalist; and has worked with this organization during emergency situations. Captain Bubby is very passionate about preserving wildlife and sea life that are indigenous to Sanibel Island. That’s one of things that makes Sanibel Island such a special place.
After we stopped for our picnic box lunch along the shore, we crossed the causeway to get ready for our Sea Life Excursion Cruise with Adventures in Paradise. I knew we were going to be going on a boat. But, I was pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to the dock, and easily boarded a beautiful pontoon style boat to head out on our journey. Captain Bubby and Paula stayed with us the entire time, and they really helped make sure we were settled and relaxed as we started out.
Adventures in Paradise is a family owned and operated business since 1986. With over Twenty-nine years of experience in Sanibel, they pride themselves on providing relaxing, educational tours on the wonders of Sanibel. Our Sea Life Excursion Cruise allowed us to an opportunity to an uninhabited island just off the shores of Sanibel Island and Fort Myers for an up-close and personal encounter with the sea life indigenous to the area (e.g. Puffer-Fish, Starfish, Seahorses, Shrimp, and a lot more ). Also, I can’t leave out the shelling with only a net and opportunity.
It was really cool. I normally prefer to be that close to nature via an aquarium. But, Tracey and I do like to try new things. So, it was so cool to tie up our dresses and go out there hunting for “sea treasures”. Mom stayed on the boat with Captain Bubby . We found some very beautiful shells and left the “creatures” to the Marine Biologist on board.
It was an awesome experience, and after a few hours in the sun; we were ready to head back for some ice cream at Rosie’s Cafe and Grill to end our day. Rosie’s Cafe and Grill, is one of the great local places to eat at in Sanibel. The ice cream was homemade, and exceptional. It was the perfect treat to end our day. Next time we come back to Sanibel, my plan is to take a food tour around the island. There are some amazing places that I must try.
Our trip to Sanibel was capped off perfectly with our time with Captain Bubby and Paula. They really left an incredible impression of Sanibel Island with their kindness and love. Between Island Inn, Captain Bubby's Island Tours and Adventures in Paradise, we've discovered some of the things that make Sanibel Island a must visit place in Florida. Thank you Hillgate Marketing for coordinating our journey, and we can't wait to tell everyone we know all about Sanibel Island.
Until our next road trip! Stay tuned for more adventures!
