You Can’t Mess With My Clique: Tribing Up Blogalicious 9 Style
Hello everyone! I can’t believe a week has officially passed since I was in Miami at Blogalicious 9. It feels like I’m still there. But, I think that’s because I had so much fun & connected with some amazing people. Blogalicious is a yearly conference put together by the Be Blogalicious Influencer Community/Network. This network is filled with amazingly talented men and women who are committed to helping others navigate this complicated influencer space.
Be Blogalicious is inclusive of everyone. But, they do an excellent job of helping address the needs of multi-cultural influencers. This can be a tricky space for us, and representation often has to be fought for. But, Be Blogalicious tackles those challenges head-on with definite style and grace. That’s not surprising since it’s founder, Stacey Ferguson is masterful at using her expert skills of negotiation and strategy to make magic happen. Stacey is a former attorney, who leveraged her knowledge and love to develop others into an influencer network that partners with brands such as Wells-Fargo, KIA, Jack Daniels, etc. But, behind every great woman, there is an amazing team or tribe. So, when she decided to drop the “major keys” to how to get that done. I was sold and definitely needed to make sure I attended again.
I attended my first Blogalicious in 2016. It was in Atlanta, and I can’t tell you how it changed me. I was able to connect with amazing ladies. I met one of my favorite authors, Luvvie Ajayi (Awesomely Luvvie: You must check out her book, “I’m Judging You”) and I really for the first time felt that I was on the path to doing something that aligned with my purpose to help others. It was sheer magic. I think what I forgot about, was how I was going to get there.
Going to conferences is super cool. Getting lots of beautiful swag is epic. But, after the conference is where the rubber hits the road. How do you go about hitting all of the goals you set? Also, who’s going to help you? Because if you’re set up like me, you need help ASAP! Man, I’m literally trying to work a full-time job, take care of my family, keep my skin moisturized, my spirit clear and be open to a relationship while being an influencer. The struggle is real with these first world problems. So, I have no time or patience to waste.
That’s why Blogalicious 9 was exactly what I needed. It was nice to connect with other people living the dream and struggle too. See, many people out there will have you thinking that their life is perfect. But, those are straight lies. Everyone I met was looking for a better way to balance it all. That’s where having the right “tribe” comes in.
A lot of times we think it’s going to be friends or family. But, often than not, its people you step outside of your comfort zone to get to know. You have to build your tribe based on what you need to get to the next level. That means you have to look at where you are in the building process and be willing to get uncomfortable. Are you willing to get uncomfortable to get to your next level? Also, it may mean cutting off relationships that don’t align with your vision.
We’ve all had those people in our lives that give you backhanded compliments or hurtful feedback. They often don’t even know that they’re doing it. But, they’re tearing down your dreams because they don’t have any of their own. Those folks have to go. God gave each of us an assignment. You can never let anyone’s perceptions of they think you are, or what you should do block that assignment. What’s for you is for you.
We also talked about the need for mentors. There are many people out there who are “life coaches”, etc. You have to find the person that connects to your plans, believes in you, and holds you accountable to following through. That can be a paid relationship or not. It just depends on your circumstances. Invest in yourself like you do when you travel, buy clothes, shoes, Starbucks, etc. You’re worth it!
Blogalicious 9 was amazing and has definitely given me some tools to tighten up my tribe. I don’t have it all mapped out yet. I feel like my tribe is evolving. But, I have a better blueprint of how to make it what I need. Between that and all of the amazing people I met, I feel like it was time well spent and needed. So, I challenge you to invest in yourself. Research a conference, webinar, coaching session, etc. that will help you be better and go. We only have one life to live. Make it the best life possible by investing in yourself.
Until we meet again!
